Djerba Midoun Shines as Tunisia’s Cleanest Municipality in 2025

The municipality of Djerba Midoun, in the governorate of Medenine, has won the national award for Tunisia’s cleanest municipality for 2025, according to the municipality’s secretary-general, Ali Kediri.

Kediri said the national recognition rewards sustained efforts and collective work involving municipal workers, associations, volunteers, youth organizations, tourism professionals and local residents.

He stressed that the award is not an endpoint, but rather an additional responsibility and a driver to strengthen efforts aimed at improving the local cleanliness system.

The municipality now plans to intensify work to eliminate pollution hotspots, expand waste sorting at source, improve the quality of municipal services and preserve the city’s urban appeal. These efforts are also intended to reinforce Midoun’s status as a leading tourism and environmental destination.

Kediri also noted that municipal workers collect more than 160 tons of waste every day, despite population growth and the sharp rise in visitors during the summer season.

The municipality says it will build on this national achievement to continue improving performance, consolidate progress and strengthen the quality of local governance across all areas of municipal management.
