Festival International de Symphonie d'El Jem: chants d'exil at the amphitheatre, Friday 24 July
The 39th International Festival of Symphonic Music brings an evening dedicated to chants of exile to El Jem's Roman amphitheatre on Friday 24 July, with Orchestre l'Orphéon performing a tribute to Marcel Khalifé and a second set by Mehdi Haddjeri Band.
The 39th International Festival of Symphonic Music of El Jem returns to the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem, in Mahdia Governorate, for its Friday 24 July evening concert, starting at 22:00.
The night is billed as an evening of chants of exile. The first part is dedicated to Lebanese composer and musician Marcel Khalifé, with Orchestre l'Orphéon performing his Concerto Al Andalus. The second part brings together Mehdi Haddjeri Band, La Cité des Marmots du 93 and Ouled El Jem.
Tickets are 37.5 TND and are available online via teskerti.tn. Book ahead: several concerts in the 2025 season sold out. A return coach service from outside the Ministry of Tourism in Tunis departs at 17:00 and costs 30 TND; confirm availability on 55 179 558 before booking.
The festival, now in its 39th edition, has been held each summer since 1985 inside El Jem's third-century amphitheatre — a UNESCO World Heritage site with a capacity of up to 35,000. This year's programme runs from 11 July to 22 August and draws musicians from Tunisia, Austria, France, Italy and Spain.
