Journées Théâtrales 77 returns to Carthage from 10 to 20 June with Palestine as guest of honour

The 12th edition of the Journées Théâtrales 77 will take place from 10 to 20 June at Cinémadart in Carthage.

This year’s edition is the festival’s first international edition, after 11 national editions since its launch in 2016.

Palestine is guest of honour, with artists and theatre professionals also expected from Jordan and Egypt.

The festival is directed by Tunisian actor and director Moez Gdiri and is linked to École 77, his theatre training school.

Organisers say the programme will include 23 Tunisian and Arab performances, along with master classes, artistic residencies, training sessions and workshops.

Palestinian writer, actor and director Ghannam Ghannam is among the invited guests.

He is scheduled to present “Bi Oum Aïni 1948” and lead a master class on Arab theatre and identity.

The programme also includes “O”, a graduation project by the second class of École 77.

Other listed works include “Flagg”, “Hizam” and “Entre deux traces”.

A short film and mobile cinema workshop will run from 17 to 19 June, led by Jordanian trainer Mondher Khalil Mustafa.

A traditional dance residency will take place from 15 to 20 June, led by Chaïma Aouni and Haythem Boughalmi.

The festival will also launch LAB 77, a platform for young writers and directors.

Organisers say the platform is intended to support new work and give young theatre makers space to develop and present projects.

The 12th edition will also include tributes to Mouna Noureddine, Taoufik Jebali, Mohamed Moumen, Faouzia Mezzi and Lotfi Arbi Snoussi.

A separate tribute is planned for Ghannam Ghannam.

All events are scheduled at Cinémadart in Carthage.
