La Marsa charity run raises support for blood cancer patients
The fifth Run of Heroes will take place on La Marsa Corniche to support the ATGMO reception home, which has housed 137 families and helped transport patients to treatment.
A charity run in support of blood cancer patients is taking place in La Marsa on Sunday, with proceeds going towards accommodation and support services for patients travelling for care.
Run of Heroes, now in its fifth edition, is organised by the Tunisian Association for Bone Marrow Transplant, known by its French acronym ATGMO.
The association says its reception home has already housed 137 families, helped transport dozens of patients to medical appointments and begun renovation works to improve its facilities.
The event is being held to help finance the running costs of that reception home, which supports patients with blood cancers and their families during long periods of treatment.
For families living outside Tunis, specialist care can mean repeated journeys, accommodation costs and time away from home. Patient associations often help fill that gap by providing practical support that sits outside formal hospital treatment.
The run will take place in La Marsa, with circuits chosen and approved by Running Club Tunisie.
The programme includes a 10km race for regular runners, a 3km Run Family solidarity walk and a 1km Run Kids race for children.
The sports village opens at 07:30, followed by a warm up session at 07:45 and entertainment from 08:00. The 10km race starts at 08:30, the 3km family route at 08:40 and the children’s 1km race at 08:50.
Podiums and awards are scheduled for 11:00, with the event closing at 12:00.
All participants will receive a finisher medal. Trophies will be awarded in Masters categories, with partner gifts for scratch winners. The scratch podiums will recognise the first three men and first three women.
The Masters categories are divided into three age groups: 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 60 to 69. The Run Family event has no podium and is intended as a non competitive solidarity walk.
Organisers say this year’s edition will also include awareness workshops, entertainment, gifts and activities for children and families throughout the day.
Run of Heroes V T shirts will be sold exclusively at bib collection points. The organisers also said group registrations for clubs can benefit from bib delivery, with personalised bibs available for participants.
The association is also seeking partnerships and sponsorships from companies wishing to support the cause.
