"Les Fugueuses" opens the 60th Festival International de Hammamet
Wafa Taboubi's multi-award-winning theatre piece *Les Fugueuses* opens the 60th edition of the Festival International de Hammamet on Saturday 11 July at the amphitheatre of the Centre Culturel International de Hammamet, launching a season of 32 shows from 12 countries running through 13 August.
The 60th Festival International de Hammamet opens on Saturday 11 July with Les Fugueuses, a theatre piece written, staged and designed by Tunisian director and dramatist Wafa Taboubi. The show is a co-production between the Théâtre National Tunisien and Fabula Production, and takes place at the Amphithéâtre du Centre Culturel International de Hammamet (CCIH), Avenue des Nations Unies, Hammamet 8050. No start time has been published; check the festival website before travelling.
The piece follows six characters — five women and one man — stranded at a station waiting for a departure that never comes. Unable to return home, they set off together toward an open horizon, confronting doubt, absence and the question of what comes next. The cast is Fatma Ben Saïdane, Mounira Zakraoui, Lobna Noomene, Mouhamed Bouzid, Oumaima Bahri and Sabrine Omar. Music is by Heni Belhamadi; costumes by Ghassen Douissa.
Wafa Taboubi is a Tunisian director, dramatist, scenographer and researcher whose work addresses the body, identity and the condition of women through a strongly visual aesthetic. Tunisian women headline both the opening and closing nights of this edition: the closing on 13 August is by singer Sofia Sadok.
The festival runs 11 July to 13 August 2026 under the slogan "Endless Memories". It brings 32 shows — four plays, one choreographic creation and 27 concerts — from Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, the USA, Mali, Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria and Italy. Among the artists scheduled in the weeks that follow are Dhafer Youssef (12 July), Yasmine Hamdan (13 July), Faraj Suleiman (23 July), Marcel Khalifé (24 July), The Buena Vista Orchestra (28 July), Salif Keïta (31 July) and Mariza (1 August).
Tickets for Les Fugueuses are priced at 25 TND (Gradin). Tickets for other shows vary and can be purchased by bank or postal card online at festivaldehammamet.com.
