Orchestre l'Orphéon at El Jem: a tribute to Marcel Khalifé and the music of exile
French ensemble Orchestre l'Orphéon brings a two-part concert to the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem on Friday 24 July, opening with a tribute to Lebanese oud master Marcel Khalifé before joining Mehdi Haddjeri Band and La Cité des Marmots du 93 for a programme honouring North African diasporic music.
French ensemble Orchestre l'Orphéon performs at the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem on Friday 24 July at 22:00, as part of the 39th International Festival of Symphonic Music of El Jem.
The evening is in two parts. The first is a concert dedicated to Lebanese composer and oud master Marcel Khalifé, one of the Arab world's most celebrated musical figures. The second part, titled Géants de l'exil (Giants of Exile), brings Orchestre l'Orphéon together with Mehdi Haddjeri Band and La Cité des Marmots du 93 in a programme centred on North African diasporic musical identity.
The concert runs for approximately two hours at the Amphitheatre El Jem, Route Mahdia, El Jem — a UNESCO World Heritage site.
