The criminal chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance sentenced a young man to 30 years in prison on Monday after convicting him of murdering a friend in the Zahrouni district of the Tunisian capital, La Presse de Tunisie reported.

The court found that the accused had stabbed the victim with a knife following a dispute between the two men, causing his death, according to the report.

The verdict was reached after the close of the investigation phase, the hearing of witnesses, and the examination of a medical report and the records of the judicial police, La Presse said.

As a first-instance ruling, the sentence is subject to appeal before the Tunis Court of Appeal. No statement from the defence was reported.
