Tunisian Scouts launch plan to plant 100,000 trees nationwide
The “Nous plantons l’avenir” project will run for 18 months and aims to plant 100,000 trees across more than 100 hectares, while training scout leaders and running awareness campaigns in schools and urban areas.
The Tunisian Scouts have launched a new environmental project to plant 100,000 trees across the country over the next 18 months.
The project, called “Nous plantons l’avenir” or “Nazraa El Mostakbal”, will cover more than 100 hectares across all governorates and is designed to support reforestation, environmental education and forest protection.
The programme is funded by the German development agency GIZ and the European Union.
Its first component focuses on planting 100,000 trees in different regions, with the aim of restoring and expanding wooded areas.
A second component will train 50 scout leaders as “forest protection ambassadors”. They will be expected to promote environmental practices in their communities and support local awareness work.
The third part of the project will focus on public education. More than 100 awareness campaigns are planned in urban areas and schools to promote tree protection, environmental responsibility and the preservation of green spaces.
The Scouts said the initiative forms part of wider national efforts to protect forests, fight desertification and respond to climate change.
The project also gives young people a direct role in environmental work, linking tree planting with education, local mobilisation and forest protection.
